Read this before using the numbers

ChatGPT Ads has no benchmarks in the usual sense. OpenAI says so directly: its advertiser FAQ states that performance benchmarks do not yet exist across advertisers, industries or campaign types. What exists is a short list of public numbers, most of them from one account over a few weeks.

This page keeps all of them in one place, with the source, what was actually measured and how much weight it can bear. Treat them as planning constraints and sanity checks, not forecasts. For the full argument, read Do ChatGPT ads work? and reading CTR and CPC when no benchmarks exist.

This table is free to cite and link. Each number keeps its source and how much weight it can bear, and the page is updated as new public results appear. Suggested citation:

Why the single-account numbers disagree

The two realised CPCs on record, about 1.72 USD and about 7 USD, differ by four times. That is what single-account data looks like on a new auction: category, bid strategy, objective, creative and the month the test ran all move the result, and none of them is held constant between the two.

The CTR figures have a second problem. A campaign bought on impressions is not trying to earn clicks, so a 0.91% CTR on a view-priced campaign says little about what a Clicks campaign in the same category would get.

What to benchmark instead

For B2B, compare ChatGPT Ads against your own channels for the same offer: cost per qualified lead against paid search and LinkedIn, the share of leads that match your target accounts, and whether the same topics show up in organic AI answers about your category.

The sequence that produces a usable number: install measurement, launch with enough budget to see delivery, set kill criteria in advance, and read the result against your own baselines rather than anyone else’s. Our test-cost guide works out what that budget is.

Quick answers

What is a good CTR for ChatGPT ads?

There is no published standard. OpenAI states no benchmarks exist across advertisers, and the public figures, 0.6% and 0.91%, are single tests. Judge CTR against your own Google and LinkedIn numbers for the same offer.

How much does a click cost on ChatGPT ads?

OpenAI recommends starting with a maximum CPC of 3 to 5 USD. Reported realised CPCs range from about 1.72 USD in one 15-day account to about 7 USD in another small test.

What is the minimum budget for ChatGPT ads?

25 USD per campaign per day in the US, 15 EUR or 15 GBP in Europe, and a published floor for each of 30 billing currencies. A daily budget averages over a week and can spend up to twice the figure on one day.

Do ChatGPT ads work?

For some advertisers in some categories, on the evidence of a handful of single-account tests. Nobody has published a cross-advertiser result, so a test on your own account is the only reliable answer.

Self-serve is open. Doing it well is the hard part.
